Focus of Visiting Lay Ministry
-
The Visiting Lay Ministry’s focus includes visiting, listening, praying, sharing scriptures and serving communion to Care Receivers. They provide comfort and spiritual support in a confidential manner.
-
Visiting Lay Ministers are lay members that are trained to complement and supplement the Mt. Zion clergy in their ongoing congregational care. They serve on request and on behalf of the clergy and the congregation. Visiting Lay Ministers report back to the Pastors after their visits.
-
Lay members of Mt. Zion UMC receive training and screening before they are given the role of Visiting Lay Minister.
-
Visiting Lay Ministers respond to short-term care needs and homebound members who are in need of support and care.
-
Visiting Lay Ministers are not transportation providers, medical liaisons, or care task assistants. Their role is to to provide companionship and spiritual support.
