Sleep Mats for the Homeless

Right Now

Save your plastic grocery bags and bring them to church for re-use instead of recycling. We will be saving them for making mats for the homeless population in the area. Collection bins will be provided in the first floor elevator area.

Sleep Mats for the Homeless (5th Sunday) Imagine being homeless and living outside at the whim of the weather’s unpredictable elements. What if you could make a difference in someone’s life AND address an environmental crisis at the same time? All it takes is a loving heart and a willing spirit. Join us in fellowship as we learn what it takes to make waterproof sleeping mats for the homeless out of plastic shopping bags AND help reduce the harmful effects of plastic bags on the earth and nature. There’s something for everyone whether it’s collecting and sorting plastic bags, cutting strips, knotting the loops together to form the plastic yarn, or crocheting the mats. Contact Judy Rothwell at or the church office at for additional information.
