Hoops2Heaven Fall/Winter 2017 Info

The Mt. Zion UMC Youth Sports Ministry is Christ-centered and has been dedicated to helping boys and girls enjoy fun sports, improve their skills, and grow in a safe environment since 1987. The Youth Sports Ministry staff is highly experienced in managing youth sports and ministering to children and youth.  Christ-centered devotions are shared for each activity.

Hoops2Heaven Fall/Winter League 

Players are grouped by skill level. The effective date for age participation is Sept. 1. Ages 5-14 are eligible.  Email  hoops2heaven@gmail.com for more info. 

You will have two practices and/or games per week on Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays. You may specify one night that will not work for you on your registration form and one carpool request, and we will attempt to honor those requests.

Our beginner skill group will practice from 6 to 7 pm, the middle skill group will practice from 7 pm to 8 pm, and the highest skill group will practice from 8 to 9 pm except Thursday which will be 7 to 8 pm. 
 
Saturday games begin at 9 am with the lowest skill group, followed by the middle group at mid-day and concludes with the oldest age/skill group in the afternoon.

The Hoops2Heaven fall/winter season runs from the third week of November through mid-February, with a break for Thanksgiving and Christmas vacation.

Hoops2Heaven Staff

Coordinator -  Coach Dan Farr

Coach Dan began the Mt. Zion UMC basketball ministry almost 30 years ago. He has coordinated, directed, and coached in the youth sports ministry and brings a wealth of experience in mentoring coaches and working with young people. Dan is also the chaplain for a local high school football team and an author of Final Score! Sports books. 

Director - Coach Trey Stevenson

Coach Trey has participated in our year-round ministry since 2012 and is our director of operations. He is well known throughout East Cobb as president and owner of Train ‘Em Up LL and has trained over 100 young people in innovative basketball and training techniques. He is also the coach and director of player development for Georgia Kings AAU U12. Trey is an area rep for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)!

 Summer Camp Director - Coach Matt Tchir

Coach Matt has 20+ years of experience in basketball instruction and summer camps after a career as a Division I player.  He is the owner of Basketball Dreams, Inc. and hosted our very popular summer camp experience the past four years.
