Church Membership

Ways to Join the Church:

  1. Adult Baptism and Profession of Faith: Baptism is the initiation into the Christian family with roots reaching back to the ancient Jews and the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River. For the first Christians, it was the symbol of God's cleansing from the guilt of our sins. Profession of Faith is the public acceptance of Christian faith and the expression of the desire to live the Christian life as a disciple of Jesus Christ and a member of His church.
  2. Transfer of Membership: We recognize and respect the baptism and membership vows of other denominations. A person who has been a member of another denomination or of another United Methodist church, may join Mt Zion UMC by transfer. We will write a letter to the former church requesting the membership of the person be "transferred" to us.
  3. Infant Baptism: Persons of all ages are loved by God. Infant Baptism is a celebration of that love which will be expressed through the influence of family, friends and the church. While not a “professing member” yet, the baptized child is a beloved part of the Christian family.
  4. Confirmation: For baptized children, youth or adults, a public profession of faith confirms the growth in faith which began in baptism. Our Confirmation classes last for several months and includes weekly study times and one or two retreat weekends. The Pastor’s Class offers education and insight for adults considering membership.

How to Join the Church:

  1. Call the church office and ask to speak with one of the pastors.
  2. Complete an "Invitation to Join" card from the pew and hand it to one of the pastors after any service.

Welcome to Mt. Zion!
